Carol Covell, General Manager for more than 20 years, has shaped the guest experience, overseeing both the restaurant and the inn with her characteristic warmth, consistency, and care. Carol believes that great hospitality is rooted in genuine connection and thoughtful attention to detail.
Her dedication to the historic inn has been instrumental in earning The 1770 House consistent rave reviews, longtime restaurant customers and returning inn guests. At the heart of The 1770 House is our director of hospitality and beverage, Michael Cohen. A seasoned and passionate hospitality professional, Michael has overseen the refined guest relations and an award-winning wine and beverage program for nearly two decades.
Michael Cohen is a steward of a long tradition of warmth and hospitality. He has nurtured a culture of excellence that resonates throughout the guest experience, evident every evening when Michael welcomes guests to the world-renowned 1770 House restaurant. In his role as wine and beverage director, Michael curates a world-class wine list; one that has earned him an invitation to the prestigious James Beard House on three separate occasions. The wine list, under Michael’s expertise, has recognized with The Wine Spectator’s Awarded of Excellence every year since 2007.
The wine collection at The 1770 House offers guests the opportunity to explore wines from around the world with exceptional selections at a variety of price points — from approachable bottles to rare gems. Under his leadership, the staff has been trained to provide knowledgeable wine service and recommendations.
